Summary Note
In connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman LEO J. RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States. On February 2, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B47 #79. This tape was found to contain the following: Side A contains: 1. Telephone conversation. A male attempting to make a long distance call to wife of Dr. ESTHER (sp) in Botafogel (phonetic). The operator says there is no such listing. 2. Telephone conversation. One male telling another of an upcoming award for JIM JONES. 3. JIM JONES talking to a male who appears to be on the staff of former San Francisco mayor MOSCONE. JONES advises that they were able to get only 600 copies of the "Examiner" to answer the poll regarding MOSCONE. 4. COREY, an aide to MOSCONE, to MIKE and JIM regarding results of above described poll. 5. Male from State Parks and Recreation making appointment for Saturday, the 6th, to discuss a pilot program. Side B contains approximately 20 minutes of Channel 5 television news reports in the Fall of 1977. This tape was reviewed, and nothing was contained thereon which was considered to be of evidentiary nature or beneficial to the investigation of Congressman RYAN. There is no summary or transcript of this recording, but a full index is available on the Alternative Considerations of Jonestown website.
