Historical Note
Science-fiction fanzines (a portmantaeu of “fan" and "magazine”) emerged from the 1930s science fiction fandoms. These self-published works, usually circulated free of charge or for a small cost to cover the expense of production and postage, were distributed at science fiction conventions, stocked at local shops, or traded with other fans. Fanzines featured reader letters, literary criticism, and original creative work.
