Peterson, of San Diego, California, the sum of $20,000, for permanent injuries sustained by him as a result of an operation performed on him on April 18, 1923, at the United States Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota, in which a foreign body (a sponge) was negligently left in his abdomen and so remained until discovered and removed during a subsequent operation on July 9, 1948."
