Public Relations: Cruises, 1959-1960
Scope and Contents
As with the previous folders featuring these special cruises the contents are as follows: two stapled groups of letters from 1959: letters (5/23, 6/3 & 6/5) from Wilson & RAdm. C. C. Hartman (Commandant, 11th Naval District, S.D.) re/ a cruise on an aircraft carrier for Fritz Hahan and Harry Summers. “These men operate the Wherry Housing Units at Camp Pendleton;” and letters (11/27 & 12/15) from Wilson & a letter (12/9) from RAdm. Hartman re/ 20 members of the Aviation Committee of the San Diego Jr. Chamber of Commerce who Wilson sponsored to spend a day abroad an aircraft carrier. Letters from January to May, 1960: a letter (1/21) from Eric J. Moore (Chairman, S.D. Jr. Chamber of Commerce) to Wilson re/ “I would like to take this opportunity to thank you most heartily for your efforts in arranging a day’s carrier cruise for our Aviation Committee;” letters (Feb.) re/ a requested “civilian cruise” for Archie Wilson (Coronado), Franklin Barnes (Julian), Don Briggs (Leucadia) and Clifford Christopher (Palm Springs); letters (Feb.-Apr.) re/ attempt of Wilson to secure a cruise for those delegates attending the Western States Advertising Agencies Association convention in San Diego in late April; letters (4/27 & 5/6) re/ appreciation of Mr. Arch Wilson (General Superintendent of Mails, S.D.) to Postmaster Earl Roberts for his spending a week aboard the U.S.S. Bennington. He also thanked Wilson.
