Scope and Contents
A collection of telegrams, letters, reports and a 1956 Summery of a Military Public Works Bill Examples are: letters (2/3, 13 & 17 & 3/ 9 & 17) re/ Wilson and the Dept. of the Army’s Director of Public Works respond to Lakeside constituent Richard Johnson’s concern about the Rampart Canyon Dam in Alaska and the problem of water pollution in the United State; a telegram (5/14) from Oscar T. Lawler (President, Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce) to Wilson re/ opposition to” Secretary Udall’s decision to fill Glen Canyon Dam in violation of 1962 criteria and because water users have prior rights over power users;” a letter (4/2) from San Diego constituents Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Lacy, Jr. & Wilson’s reply (5/14) re/ opposition to the Kinzua Dam Project in the Seneca Nation; letters (5/18, 20, 21, 28 & 6/2 re/ efforts to resolve a harbor problem – the Navy, the Marine Corps and the City of Oceanside were all concern about maintenance dredging in the Oceanside Harbor and Del Mar Boat Basin (Camp Pendleton) area;” letters (5/13, 19 & 6/3, 15 & 19) re/ the Hillside Hospital (1940 El Cajon Blvd. S.D.) sought federal funds under the Accelerated Public Works program and were encouraged to make an application by HEW; letters (7/7 & 9) & attached copy of 11 page legal-sized “Statement of National Rural Electric Cooperative Association CN Proposals Submitted by the Secretary of the Interior for Construction of a Pacific Northwest – Pacific Southwest EHV Transmission System Before Subcommittee of Committee Appropriations United States Senate July 2, 1964” re/ Clyde T. Ellis (General Mgr., National Rural Electric Cooperative Association) proposes “a solution of the West Coast intertie issue . . . as a compromise” and sent Wilson a copy of their chief engineer-staff counsel, Charles A. Robinson, Jr.’s, testimony; a letter (7/17) from Kenneth Hahn (Supervisor, 2nd Dist. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors) & Wilson’s reply (7/21) re/ they were sending “a timely report on water reuse plan which was prepared by the Sanitation Districts of the County” – if 20 reclamation plants were constructed, 100 million gallons of water could be reclaimed daily in Los Angeles County; 2 telegrams (10/30) from District Engineer, US Army Engineer Dist. 751 to Wilson re/ “proposed shore protection work for eroding cliffs in the Bird Rock Area of La Jolla has been adopted for accomplishment under section 103 of the 1962 River and Harbors Act” with a total estimated cost of $108,000 , of which the local share, state and city would be $80,500; a copy of “Summary of Military Public Works Bill – FY 1956 Continental United States (15 pages) and “Outside Continental United States (pages 16-19).
