Scope and Contents

This is a small collection of letters, brochures, a telegram & a summary report. They are filed from Dec. to Jan. Examples are: a stapled packet containing letters (12/2, 3, 15 & 28), Dept. of Interior brochures for Glen Canyon Dam & Colorado River Storage Project, a 5 page “Summary – lower Colorado River Basin Project With Particular Reference to the Bridge Canyon and Marble Canyon Units” & a 4 page news release (5/19) “Secretary Udall Supports Authorization of Comprehensive Project Package to meet Long-Range Water Needs of the Lower Colorado River Basin” re/ Wilson’s letters were in response to questions raised by constituent G. D. Adams, M.D. about the Glen Canyon Dam Project and preserving the natural beauty of the area. Wilson agreed; a telegram (9/25) from Walter A Zitlau (Executive VP, SDG&E) & Wilson’s & Utt’s reply re/ support of Amendment to S.2300 deleting the St. John Project in Maine and modifying the Flint River and Rowlesburg Projects; letters (July & Aug.) re/ Wilson and the Bureau of Reclamation responded to Coronado constituent Miss Elsie F. Kimberly’s opposition to the proposed Sun Butte Dam in Montana and its threat to the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area; letters (Feb. & Mar.) re/ responses to San Diego constituent Samuel Cohen’s concerns about quarrying stone from Morro Rock by the Army Corps of Engineers. H.R. Bill 1582 would transfer control of Morro Rock to the State of California. Removal of stone was not anticipated , said Major General Jackson Graham, Dir. of Civil Works; a letter (8/5) from Col. John A. B. Dillard (Dist. Engineer, Los Angeles, Corps of Engineers) to Wilson re/ a public hearing on the proposed flood control and related purposes for the San Dieguito River was scheduled for Sept. 12; letters (1/28 & 2/25) re/ Constituents Harry Armstrong (Naval Repair Facility Activation Association) and Clyde Davee (Dill Insurance Agency) discuss a proposed canal within the continental U.S. – from the Gulf of Mexico to San Diego – Wilson indicated this was not feasible and did not support the concept.
