Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, a news release, a reference sheet, tabulations for flood control, a public notice, map and list of interested parties: Examples are: letters (11/28/56 & 1/21/57) from De Graff Austin (Chairman, Bd. of Supervisors, County of San Diego) & Wilson’s reply (1/7/57) re/ two crucial items to discuss with Wilson: “the closing of the international border to juveniles, and the South Bay channel opening;” a letter (3/6/57) from Brig. General J. L. Person (Asst. Chief of Engineers for Civil Works, Dept. of the Army) to Wilson and “furnished for your information a copy of the proposed report of the Chief of Engineers, together with a copy of the report of the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors, on a preliminary examination and survey of San Dieguito River” for the “multi-purpose dam to be constructed by local interests at the Hodges site, mile 13 on the San Dieguito River;” a letter (2/26/60) from Brig. General R. G. MacDonnell (Division Engineer, South Pacific Division, Corps of Engineers) to Wilson re/ flood control on the Fresno River Basin; “X Reference Sheet” (3/9/60) re/ Wilson office “re: Boss appearing before Committee on Public Works to speak on the need of a survey by the Army Corps of Engineers to determine the need for flood control improvements in the San Diego River Basin situated in Mission Valley;” a letter (3/14/60) from William M. Carah (Executive Secretary, Californian Water Commission, Dept. of Water Resources) to Wilson with “enclosed . . . tabulations giving a breakdown of the items comprising the California 1960-61 request for appropriations for federal flood control and reclamation projects in California” and “Status of Unauthorized Flood Control Projects in California;” letters (Apr. & May, 1960) re/ constituent Mrs. Eva Malcom Mercer owned property on the Kaskaskia River at Shelbyville, Illinois, understood that the federal government was considering the Shelbyville Dam Project on the River and requested Wilson’s assistance in communicating with the Office of Engineers, Dept. of the Army. He complied and they did; a letter (7/27/60) from Brig. General R. G. MacDonnell (Division Engineers, South Pacific Division, Corps of Engineers) to Wilson with enclosed copies of a public notice, a map and a mailing list re/ the survey report for flood control on Marsh and Kellogg Creeks, Contra Costa County, California.
