Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, reports, statements, resolutions & other government material related to flood control. These are filed from July 1962 back to December 1961. Examples are: a letter (7/12) from the San Antonio Land Owners’ Association & attached copy of their 10/24/61 “Resolution Against Building San Antonio Dam at Pleyto B Reservoir Site on San Antonio River” re/ Bill H. R. 12081, “certain land and easement interests at Hunter-Liggett Military Reservation” for construction of the dam and reservoir were opposed by these land owners; a letter (7/5) from William E. Warne (Dir. of Water Resources, State of California) to Wilson re/ H. R. 12081 – “The proposed project is an integral part of the California Water Plan;” letters (6/5, 13 & 19) re/ responses by Wilson and the Army Corps of Engineers to constituent Mrs. Ruth L. White’s concern about “the breaking of a treaty in connection with the Kinzua Dam project; letters (5/14, 18 & 7/5) & report re/ The Sierra Club’s concern as shown in the attached Hansen Report for the U.S. Geological Survey “about the geological threat to Rainbow Bridge which Lake Powell is likely to pose;” a letter (2/8) from the Gustine Chamber of Commerce to Wilson & the enclosed copy of a Resolution adopted by the Chamber re/ “the early completion of the Central Valley Project;” letter & charts (Feb.) from the California Farm Research and Legislative Committee to Congressman Rogers and Members of the Subcommittee re/ hearings to be held in February on several bills related to the Central Valley Project – they were in support of these bills; a letter (1/22) from the Secretary of the Interior to Wilson and “enclosed copies of our Solicitor’s recent opinions on the agreement for the San Luis Unit of the Central Valley Project and the Kings River and Kern River contracts” – both are dated 12/29/62 and contain many pages of information.
