Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, government documents, news clippings, telegrams & other items. These are not filed in consective order as to date or item. Examples are: a copy of 86th Cong., 2nd Sess., S. 497 . . . March 11, 1958 . . . An Act Authorizing the construction, repair, and preservation of certain public works on rivers and harbors for navigation, flood control and for other purposes” 115 pages; a letter (2/15/58) from Capt. P. B. Haines, Jr. (Dir., Congressional Inquiry Division, Dept. of the Navy) to Wilson re/ acknowledging Wilson’s “request that money be allocated to construct a rock groin Navy property . . . to permanently stabilize the beach at Imperial Beach;” a letter (2/3/58) from H. G. Stevens (Secretary, Small Craft Harbors Commission, CA State Dept. of Natural Resources) to Wilson re/ federal government assistance needed to help the City of Imperial Beach “of keeping the Pacific Ocean from inundating the City and surrounding areas;” office note, memo, telegram & letters (2/58) re/ contacting CNO about Imperial Beach, telegram from City Mgr. Al M Carnesciali (Imperial Beach) to Wilson thanking him for his assistance and the need for the rock groin and response from the Dept. of the Navy; letters, telegrams & news clippings (2/58) re/ Wilson’s actions fostering Navy assistance on groin issue for Imperial Beach; telegrams (2/58) from Wilson, Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Chula Vista & Imperial Beach News re/ need for Navy and the Corp of Engineers to exam beach erosion in Imperial Beach; letters, telegram & resolution (2/58) re/ action related to beach erosion and Wilson’s assistance; a copy of R. Schulz To House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Works Clarence Cannon, Chairman” re/ The CA Dept. of Water Resources suggests a compromise on the Omnibus Bill in order that state funds can be utilized for Imperial Beach; letters (7/58) re/ discussion on Omnibus Bill, riders that might bring Eisenhower veto & discussion of small craft harbor at Ti Juana river; news clipping Union 11/28/58 re/ “Imperial Beach May Get Navy Secret Activity” located at Imperial Beach; a copy of the “Local News” pages a-13 – a-20, The San Diego Union, April 23, 1958 see “Sewer Taint May Close Beach Area.”
