Custodial History

Gregory Smith, County Tax Assessor, donated copies of county records of birth, marriage and death of four pioneer jewish families (Klauber, Mannasse, Rose, and Schiller) to the Jewish Historical Society of San Diego (JHSSD #2010.05). Smith had been a speaker at one of the Jewish Historical Society of San Diego meetings. In 2010, Lucille Duvall and Shirley Humphrey donated materials about Louis Rose, and in 2021 Laurel Schwartz added an article on Rose Canyon and Louis Rose in La Jolla Hisorical Society Magazine, "Timekeep." Donald H. Harrison also donated an article by Rabbi William Kramer, "The Jewish Merchants of San Diego," and a biographical article by Laurence Klauber about his father Abraham Klauber. There is also correspondence to Stan Schwartz from Philip Klauber about his family's history.
