Deborah Horwitz and Paul Nierman Collection
Scope and Contents
The Deborah Horwitz and Paul Nierman Collection consists of materials regarding the San Diego Chapter of the American Jewish Committee from the 1980s to the 2000s and the first San Diego Jewish Community Mission to Israel in 1995 when Yitzchak Rabin was assassinated. It also includes personal notes, speeches and clippings from Deborah Horwitz who was president of the San Diego Chapter of the AJC. There is also material on the Nierman Foundation and its philanthropy in San Diego.

Biographical Note
Spouses Deborah Horwitz and Paul Nierman are Chicago natives who moved to San Diego and raised two sons in the late 20th century. Both were extremely active in both the Jewish and philanthropic communities. Nierman was an information technology professional and avid yachtsman. Horwitz was a teacher and community leader. Both served on many civic and Jewish community boards. Nierman and his family manage the Nierman Family Foundation which provides philanthropy to Jewish and secular organizations and projects in the community. Horwitz was active in the American Jewish Committee, where she served as chapter president and held national office. Both were active in the Jewish Federation and Congregation Beth Israel. They moved back to Chicago in 2017.
