Scope and Contents

The Elena Saad Collection consists mainly of 37 audio tapes of interviews, in Spanish, of Mexican Jews in Tijuana and San Diego from the mid 1990s conducted by Elena Saad for a master’s thesis entitled, "La Comunidad Israelita de Tijuana" (The Jewish community of Tijuana). The collection includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, handwritten and printed materials regarding her research on the Jews of Tijuana. Most of the materials are in Spanish. General descriptions of the material in English were completed by Marilyn Tom.

Copyright resides with the creator(s) of materials contained in the collection or their heirs. The nature of archival collections is such that multiple creators are often applicable and copyright status may be difficult or even impossible to determine. In any case, the user must assume full responsibility for any use of the materials, including but not limited to, obtaining publication rights and copyright infringement. When requesting images from Special Collections & University Archives for publication, we require a signed agreement waiving San Diego State University of any liability in the event of a copyright violation.

Biographical Note

Elena Fishman de Saad was born in Mexico City. In Mexico she raised four children and then began her studies, receiving a graduate degree in history from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 1977. The family came to San Diego in 1982 and Saad began studies for a Master's Degree at UCSD. She presented papers at various academic conferences in Latin America and the United States.

The Jewish Historical Society of San Diego transferred this collection to Special Collections & University Archives on July 21, 2015.
