Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, resolutions,” petitions, post cards, and other items; these are filed in random fashion, have some from 1960 and most are dated January & February 1961. Examples are: letter (1/10/61) from M.H. Barry (Secretary, North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce) “Resolution” to Congress to retain the HUAC; letters (2/14/61) from Mr. & Mrs. Johnston supporting the retention of HUAC; a similar letter (12/26/60) from the Rev. Faye B. Brice, Gospel Chapel, National City in support of the committee; letters (Jan.-Feb. ’61) from Howard Z. Dudley (La Jolla) to Wilson and several pages of petitions from “The Committee for Continuation of the Un-American Activities Committee” - “please have your secretary see that they get to the proper place;” letters (Jan.-Feb. ’61) and news clipping from the San Diego Union (1/17/61) from El Cajon constituent Mrs. Mabel Chitwood re/ news clipping relative to “Operation Abolition” & criticism of ACLU;” letters (11/37/69 & 1/4/61) re/ the Rev. J. A. Gordon (Gordon Plastics, Inc.) and his support for the retention of the committee; The Remainder of the letters and post cards in this folder all address the need to retain the House Un-American Activities Committee. Wilson had a standard reply in support of retaining the committee, if legislation was introduced to abolish it, that there were enough patriotic Congressmen to kill it.
