Scope and Contents
A continuation similar to Folders 1 & 2. It contains a number of pro & con items, but is more weighted to the anti-communist approach. The filing appears more random than sequential in chronology. Examples are: letters (Apr.-May & July-Aug.) from constituents Dr. John E. Waters & Dr. Milton Evangelou re/ John Birch Society & opposition to admission of Communist China to the United Nations; stapled packet of letters (1/31, 1/27 & 12/15/60), 11 pages of “In Search of Truth: An Analysis of the H.C.U.A. Propaganda Film ‘Operation Abolition,’” Paul Jacobs, “A Movie with a Message”& Washington Post news clipping, “Judge Agrees with FBI that Reds Caused Riot; a June 23 letter to Wilson from Patrick Murphy Malin (Ex. Dir ACLU) and their pamphlet “What is The American Civil Liberties Union?”; packet of information related to Defense Dept. denial of the participation of Navy Band in anti-Communist rally (7/27); letter (July), office note, news clipping “The Red Menace Indonesia Aid Pledge Peril Seen;” letter (5/17) re/ retired Army Colonel is worried that Republicanism is being threatened by the John Birch Society; letter (5/31) from Wilson and attached copy of a Proposal by Captain Richard Sancho (USMCR - Inactive) entitled “Project Bullfrog” re/ use of helicopters in combat missions & CIA activities; letters (Aug.-Sept.) re/ concerns of Spring Valley constituents Mr. & Mrs. Roland Pair about those in the entertainment field that have been listed by the HUAC; packet of items related to the choice of Corliss Lamont to attend the Seventh World Conference Against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs and the reactions of those opposed to Lamont as a fellow traveler; several letters (April) related to H.R. 2302 – to outlaw the Communist Party – and limit entry into the U.S.; letters (Apr. & May) re/ criticism of President Kennedy’s foreign policy and executive orders & support for Congressman Francis S. Walter; copy of Congressional Record – Appendix (1961) A2969 re/ Remarks of Hon. James B. Utt supporting the John Birch Society; letters (4/16 & 4/24) re/ support for Wilson and the Un-American Affairs Committee; letters (Apr.-May) re/ responses to County Dept. of Education Superintendent Ceil Hardesty’s concerns about John Strohm and the documentary China Under Communism; office note Marge to Maggie, memo and telegram (May) re/ “Show the Boss this memo to Marge Bell at State College, please. This is what he gave over the phone” on The Fair Play to Cuba organization. The Associated Student Council was concerned if it was considered a subversive group; letters (Apr. & May) from Curley Simons and Wilson re/ activities of Un-American Affairs Committee & reference to the film Operation Abolition; letters (May & June) re/ strong anti- communist message from constituent John W. Laycock about the communist menace & his recommendation about needed legislation; letters (Oct.) re/ Wilson sends a copy of “The New Drive Against Anti-Communist Program” to Mrs. Robert V. Howelll; letters (Sept.) re/ retired Marine Captain John M. Baker appreciates Wilson’s voting record and activities committee role. Baker urges Wilson to support Senator Strom Thurmond’s position in opposition to President Kennedy’s instructions to the military on the concept of Americanism; letters & post cards (Aug., Sept. & Oct.) from constituents Mr. & Mrs. Clarence White, Mrs. Lettie E. Sullivan, Mr. R. H. Meleny, Miss Jean Knight, Mrs. S.A. McClung, Mr. Casmir L. Koziknski, Mr. Douglas M. Johnson, Mr. C. L. Rudolph & Mr. P. R. Garner re/ concerns about shipment of aircraft to Yugoslavia, sending documents prepared by the Committee, local Republican support for Chairman Wilson of the Committee, Charter of the UN, reference to House Joint Resolution 447, concerns that Kennedy will recognize Outer Mongolia, Communist Menace & the use of Executive Orders; letters (Aug,-Sept.) re/ Dr. Ronald K. Redmon requests & Wilson responds by sending Dr. Redmon the booklet Communist Target Youth; letters (Sept) re/ Fred Ruiz (La Jolla Junior-Senior High School) requests & is sent a copy of Communist Target – Youth & W.C. Reid (Bisbee, AZ) requests and is sent a 1960 report of the House Un-American Activities Committee.
