Un-American Activities Committee
Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, post cards and a telegram; most of these items were mailed in January and February, but exceptions appear. They also are similar to the large majority of items cited in Folder 7, in that they support the retention of HUAC. An exception to the above are letters dated June and July: from constituent Joe Gahan, Wilson, Asst. Attorney General J. Walter Yeagley & Congressman Francis Walter (Chairman, HUAC) re/ the Freedom Builders of America or the Foundation for Divine Mediation, Incorporated (Valley Center, CA) – Cahan’s question was “Is this organization one of the fellow travelers communistic papers?” Wilson’s reply to those supporting the HUAC was: “Thank you for your thoughts on the Un-American Activities Committee. Even though a bill may be introduced to abolish this Committee, I’m sure there will be enough patriotic Congressmen to kill it. You can be sure I will support the Committee with all my strength.”
