A collection of letters, memos, reports, notes & other items. Examples are: letters (July-Aug. 1965) from constituents R. D. Brown & Mrs. Carrol Hicks, Congressman Wilson, LCDR L. B. Guisinger (Congressional Liaison Div. Office of Legislative Affairs, Navy Dept.) & VAdm. Glynn R. Donaho (Commander, Military Sea Transport Service) re/ USNS Leroy Eltinge (T-AP 154) with 2,000 Army troops aboard being incapacitated because of engineering problems and being towed to Midway Island; a note (8/10/65) from Marge, a letter (8/27/65) from Congressman Wilson & a copy Frank Homer, "Portrait Robert H. B. Baldwin, Undersecretary of the Navy," Navy Magazine (8/65) re/ comments by Wilson on the USS Mission Bay & preservation of some of the ship's mementos; a letter (8/30/65) from VAdm. Hyman Rickover & Wilson's reply (9/3/65) re/ Adm. W. P. Mack (Chief of Information, Dept. of the Navy) re/ extensive nationalistic and conservative commentaries on entertainment programs such as McHale's Navy & Broadsides and other Hollywood movies that present "anti-military" viewpoints; a letter (9/28/65) from VAdm. H. G. Rickover, "At Sea North Atlantic . . . . We have just successfully completed the first sea trials of the USS SIMON BOLIVAR, our thirty-first Polaris nuclear submarine" – contains Rickover's extensive commentaries on Simon Bolivar (1783-1830); other topics and issues in this folder are: a packet of corresp. & reports (1965) re/ historical background for the projected plan to close down the Naval Academy's Dairy – first officially established in 1913; a packet of letters & commentary (June.-Oct. 1965) re/ extensive information on the USS Franklin's naval history, and elaboration on this, from retired RAdms. (Mar.-Dec. 1965) re/ local history and the sponsorship and christening of the USS Coronado ((Amphibious Transport Dock).
