A collection of letters, postal cards, news clipping & other items. Examples are: a letter (7/15/53) from San Diego constituent Mrs. Flora E. Webb & Congressman Wilson's reply (7/22/53) re/ a war veteran widow is being denied commissary privileges by the recently passed Defense Appropriation measure in the House. Wilson shows concern and indicates that the Senate may delete this clause in the bill; a letter (7/13/53) from Coronado constituent Mrs. Theresa E. Alexander & Wilson's reply (7/15/53) re/ loss of commissary and post exchange privileges for this widow of a serviceman; a letter (7/6/53) from Hap Holliday (San Diego Grocers Assn.) & Wilson's reply (7/16/53) re/ "the repercussions here has not been bad at all" concerning the proposed legislation to restrict commissary privileges; telegrams (7/18/53) from the San Diego County Chapter of the Gold Star Wives of America & Wilson's reply re/ "amend HR 5969" & Wilson's promise to try and "eliminate unfair restrictions;" other examples for this topic in this folder are: 23 letters & telegrams in July & Aug. from constituents protesting against the denial of commissary privileges for widows and survivors of service personnel & five letters from the Grocers Assn. supporting restricting these commissary privileges.
