Another large collection of letters, telegrams, government document, newsletters, news clippings & periodical excerpt. These are not filed chronologically nor organized systematically. Parsons & a reply (4/28/53) from Wilson re/ Mr. Parsons' conservative take on public housing and other so-called government errors; letters (5/2 & 5/5/53) from Humphrey P. Lane & John N. D. Griffith (San Diego Realty Board) re/ strong opposition to public housing; a letter (4/17/53) from constituent Mrs. Margaret E. Hottell (Sec'y to San Diego Civic Housing Committee) & a reply (5/26/53) from Wilson re/ petitions to expedite sale to tenants and criticism of keeping public housing in Linda Vista; letters (4/28 & 5/6/53) re/ Bureau Of Employee Compensation, Dept. of Labor and the disability case of Edward A. (Mar.-May, 1953) re/ Wilson's response to Hazard Contacting Co. & others as to phasing out public housing & commentary on Young Republicans, the Republican Central Committee, Nixon, etc.; letters (3/53 & 4/54) re/ Apartment Assn. of San Diego's criticism of rent control & support for private defense housing; letter (4/16/53) re/ the San Diego Realty Board – "The Housing Situation in San Diego is not critical;" letter (5/30/53) from constituent Mrs. Bertha Singer re/ vacant units are available, so selloff public housing & her bigoted comment on government administrators; City of Coronado re/ transfer of 744 units to City control; 11th Naval Dist. commentary (5/53) re/ assigning housing units to military personnel; large collection of news clippings re/ housing issues; letters & "subdivision information" (7/53) re/ an owner of 60 acres ("The Highlands" Map 284) near Montgomery Airport did not qualify for FHA approval of a proposed subdivision development at this time; letters & copy of Our Community Citizens' Service Digest (4/53) re/ public housing issue; a letter (4/28/53) from M. L. Ratcliff (Business Mgr./ Financial Secretary, Local Union 569, I.B.E.W.) requesting Wilson support the President in the Public Housing Program – "that at least the minimum of 35,000 units of the $12,000,000 budget be granted for the year 1954," Wilson's reply (5/6/53) indicated that the House version, now in the Senate, "did not contain funds for public housing;" constituent John Hervey Johnson's commentary (8/28/53) is reflective of how politically conservative San Diegans included attacks on public housing with their fears of communist penetration into the previous Democratic Administrations, are worried about the public debt, government price supports and many other aspects of a progressive and liberal United States; appeals from both defense and non-defense employees for public housing (Aug & Sept. 1953); appeals (12/53) that all permanent housing units owned by the PHA be sold to veterans; telegram (11/30/53) from Fay Hartman to Terrar re/ appointment for her & her letter (12/14/53) re/ surprise party for her appointment as Special Field Representative, PHA; 8 page "Summary of Major Findings" from the San Diego Chamber of Commerce on dwelling units in metropolitan San Diego; letters (JuneJuly 1953) re/ a deserted wife with 4 children and another on the way, feared eviction from public housing in Chula Vista; a copy of Public Law 475 – 81st Cong., 2nd Sess. - "Amendments of National Housing Act" (38 pp.); a 2 page copy of "Mr. Speaker: the problem faced by Eisenhower Administration agency heads who are forced to accept unsympathetic holdovers in top policy-making jobs was never more apparent than in the Public Housing Administration today." No date, but presumably a speech by Congressman Wilson.
