Scope and Contents

A small collection of letters, report, map, press release & statement; these are filed from 1960 backed to 1952. Examples are: a letter (31 May 1960) from Brigadier General R. G. MacDonnell (Division Engineer, U.S. Army Engineer Division, South Pacific, Corps of Engineers, San Francisco) and attached copies of “Notice of Report on Oakland Harbor, California, for Navigation 7 June 1960” and a fold out map for “Oakland Harbor, California PLAN OF IMPROVEMENT;” letters (1/30 & 2/6/58) & Press Release (1/30/5) re/ Senator William F. Knowland’s “views on the Government’s recommendations for development of the power facilities of the Trinity River Project on a partnership basis;” one page (n.d.) of “Republican Congressional Committee . . . BACKGROUND MATERIAL ON THE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL BILL” re/ “The decision of the House of Representatives to sustain President Eisenhower’s veto of H. R. 3610 clears the way for a really effective enforcement program to clean up our rivers and streams” – local, rather than federal responsibility, is stressed; letters (3/? & 3/22) – that are largely illegible but concern comments by the Vista Irrigation District & Wilson as to a power dam on the Colorado River; Wilson’s Statement (7/9/53) to the Chairman of the Interior & Insular Affairs Committee supporting H. R. 5731 to store flood waters. Wilson indicated in his message a long term goal of converting salt water to potable water as a solution for the semi-arid west; letters (10/15 & 12/31/52) re/ the City of Chula Vista’s attempt to obtain a Federal Grant to enlarge their Sewage Treatment Plant was unsuccessful.
