Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, government forms, memos, office notes, statements and other items. These are filed from December 1963 back to August 1962. Examples are: letters (12/3 & 12/16) plus an “Application for Air National Guard Enlistment” re/ Austin T. Keithley (Bishop, CA) is helped by Wilson but was not successful; letters (Dec.-Sept.) re/ Private Lynn C. Evans “concerning your transfer to a control group;” letters (Dec.) re/ Wilson responds to constituent George A. Gilham’s problems as reservist who is married, working part time and attending the University of San Diego full time; letters (Nov. & Oct.) re/ Wilson responds to constituent Thomas L. Lord’s wish to be in Standby Reserve since he was completing the last year of six year military obligation as 1st Lt. in Judge Advocate General’s Corps; letters (9/12 & 9/20) re/ San Jose State College President John T. Wahlquist and Wilson share information on H.R. 8130 providing for an ROTC Two Year Program; Memo for File & letter (9/4 & 7/30) re/ information on the San Diego Chargers’ problems with having their players on active duty in the reserves; a thank you card, note and letters (Aug,-July) re/ Richard B. Carter who was “back on track as a Midshipman in the Naval Reserve” – his father thanked Wilson by writing “Believe me you have one very Special Supporter on your next campaign. Please remember me and send lots of your cards so I can do what I can to get you reelected again and again;” 2 letters & office notes (July) re/ “Dear Mr. Franks: Thank you for your recent letter concerning the wishes of your son, Dr. Robert H. Franks, to join the National Guard as an M.D. We have contacted both the Department of the Army and the Washington National Guard Bureau:” letters (Aug.-May) re/ Wilson’s respond to SP4 Paul P. Gandolfo’s desire to be discharged from the California Army National Guard for transfer to the Standby Reserve; letters (July & June) re/ Wilson’s success in assisting Coronado resident Robert E. McInerney move to San Barbara and transfer his duties to 9616th Air Reserve Recovery Squadron, Santa Barbara Municipal Airport; letters (June & May) re/ Wilson was unsuccessful in helping Coronado constituent Harold C. Ingels, a SDSC student, obtain a change of dates for his annual summer training; letters (May-Apr.) re/ Wilson assists San Diego constituent Charles N. Hicks, Jr. obtain only 15 days active duty training in the Air Force Reserve; 4 page “Statement of Major General William H. Harrison, Jr. President, National Guard Association of the United States Before Armed Services Committee House of Representatives on H.R. 4825 26 March 1963;” a large staple packet of letters, office notes, memos (Feb. ’63 to Aug. ’62) re/ the now familiar problems the San Diego Chargers were having with their players on active duty as reservists – this correspondence deals with Robert B. Mitinger, Jr.; letters & note (1/63 & 1/61) re/ Chula Vista constituent Major Carl H. Stahlheber’s “request to stay on active duty one more year;” letters (Mar.-Jan.) re/ Chula Vista constituent Daniel R. Koser’s failed attempt to transfer from the Naval Reserve to the Marine Corps Reserve since his family obligations were placing a great strain on him; letters (Feb. 63 - Dec. 62) re/ San Diego constituent Kenneth M. Brown is successful in having the Commanding General of the Presidio approve his request for transfer to the Annual Training Control Group; stapled packet of letters (Feb. 63 back to Sept. 62) re/ La Jolla constituent George F. Wilson, Jr. “confirming that you will not be called to active duty;” letters (Feb. 63 to Oct. 62) re/ George J. Grim, Jr. (attending USC College of Dentistry) made application for the Ensign 1925 program but the quota was filled; letters (Jan. 63 – Dec. 62) re/ Colonel Stuyvesant Wainwright desires transfer to the Inactive Reserve and was successful.
