Scope and Contents

A small collection of letters, maps, government resolution, & other items. Examples are: 1 letter (3/6/53) from C.W. Pollock (Acting Collector of Customs, U.S. Treasury) to Congressman Wilson, attached copies of a letter (1/26/53) from D.B. Stubinger (Acting Commissioner of Customs) & Exhibit A—“gate No. 1 San Ysidro” & Exhibit B—“San Ysidro City Extension” a fold out map-- re/ “our dire and urgent need for additonal facilities at the Customs Port of San Ysidro, California;” 1 letter (11/29/56) from Thomas W. Sefton (V.P., S.D. Trust & Savings Bank) & E.F. Terrar, Jr.’s reply (12/13/56) re/ “a tug of war is developing between the Junior Chamber and the San Diego Chamber of Commerce” over “opening additional gates or lanes at the border crossing at San Ysidro,” references to increased traffic & to Judge Hewicker’s letter; 1 letter (7/15/57) from Ralph J. Phillips (Pres., S.D. Chamber of Commerce) & Wilson’s reply (7/24/57) re/ the Bd. of Directors of the Chamber supporting Tecate’s efforts “to have the hours of the international border gate extended” from 6 p.m. to 12:00 midnight; a small packet of corresp. (July-Sept. 1957) from E.F. Terrar, Jr. (Wilson’s admin. asst.), Edward H. Leonard (Pres., Highway Ninety-Four Club), Congressman Wilson, Verne O. Warner (Sec., Border Cities Conference) & a copy of Border Cities Conference Resolution (6/14/57) re/ support for increasing the number of hours that the Tecate border gate is open—In a six month period, between Oct. 1956 & Mar. 1957, “despite the fact that the border was closed to traffic 14 hours out of each 24 hours, 35,346 automobiles, 80,318 passengers, [&] 38,285 pedestrians . . . . crossed into the United States.”
